Polarisation

Polarisation refers to the positive ions in the body migrating towards a negative pole of the lead (cathode), while negative ions travel toward the positive pole (anode).

Polarisation resistance can build up over time, which increases impedance/resistance resulting in lower current flow.

Factors affecting polarisation include

â—‹Surface area of the electrode(s)

â—‹Current flow

â—‹Electrode material

â—‹Pulse duration
