Ineffective baroreflex response (homeostatic mechanism) causes venous pooling in the periphery and/or splanchnic regions

•Abrupt reduction in venous return

Results in paradoxical vasodilatation, causing a reduction in blood pressure bradycardia, with at times prolonged asystole in sinus and/or AV nodes & presyncope or syncope
